Spooks In The Woods by Mike Storie
Berlin was considered the spy capital of the world in the 1960's. Mike supervised a small team that monitored and captured Russian Radio Signals for the National Security Agency. They where quite good at it. He was there eavesdropping on the first Soviet satellite, the Cuban missile crises, the Gary Powers spy exchange, the historic JFK Berlin speech, and the tumultuous time of the building of the Berlin Wall.
Mike describes the tools used in spying which were interesting and sometimes complicated gadgets. If you would have been caught reading them in the days, you could of possibly wound up in Federal Prison for 30 years.
McCurry's War by Chuck Thompson
https://www.amazon.com/McCurrys-War-Chuck-Thompson/dp/1475949502
Coming of age during the Vietnam War, Mike McCurry decides to join the U.S. Army rather than be drafted or take a flight to Canada. He is assigned to the Army Security Agency and begins a life of covert operation as a voice interceptor.
In the late 1960s, McCurry arrives at Teufelsberg, a super-secret listening station in West Berlin. McCurry and his fellow operatives have direct access to some of the most sensitive conversations of top officials of the East German government's Central Committee in East Berlin. Unfortunately, McCurry's group of interpreters and analysts are supervised by regular Army personnel, who have no idea of the tasks being carried out by those under their command.
McCurry's supervisors are more interested in how their troops perform on the drill field than how they are fulfilling their assigned intelligence mission, and that doesn't sit well with McCurry when national security is at stake. It doesn't take him long to recognize that it will require a combination of guile and humor to overcome the obstacles put in his path by clueless supervisors.
National Army Security Agency Association
This website supports the request of the Army Security Agency Veterans to have a Memorial in Arlington National Cemetery. It is our Proud Legacy that we want to preserve. We are currently the Unsung Heroes of an Unknown Army Unit. This not a political endeavor. We served to protect the freedoms of the Citizens of the United States, and we represent each state in our Union. The ASA was decommissioned in 1976, continued working for the National Security Agency and INSCOM / DIRNSA and, as of 2024, we have no location to call our home, or any public recognition from the ARMY, DIRNSA, nor our GOVERNMENT.
The Cold War Museum
The Cold War Museum was founded in 1996 by Francis Gary Powers Jr., son of the famed U-2 Pilot, and John Welch to preserve Cold War history, honor Cold War veterans, and educate future generations about the Cold War and its legacy.
The museum is located at Vint Hill, Virginia, on the grounds of the former Vint Hill Farms Station, which was a Top Secret Army signals intelligence base during WWII and the Cold War.
Our collections are strong in signals intelligence (SIGINT), image intelligence (IMINT), the history of Vint Hill during both WWII and the Cold War, Cold War Berlin, Civil Defense, atomic weapons, the Liberty and Pueblo incidents, Cold War cultural and Olympic competitions, Strategic Air Command, submarine detection (SOSUS), the Cuban Missile Crisis, the STASI (East German secret police), and Soviet and East German disinformation campaigns.

ABOUT THE BERLIN WALL PRESENTATION
Our exhibit and sales center showcase authentic pieces of the East Berlin Wall, adorned with emotional and powerful graffiti by Russian artists commissioned by German humanitarian Rainer Hildebrandt in 1990. Visit us to experience the Cold War history and the fight for liberty, and own a piece of the wall to embrace the spirit of freedom.
What sets us apart is our focus on the emotional response that the Berlin Wall invokes in individuals. We aim to recreate the solidarity that West Berliners had with the East by showcasing the artwork and graffiti that adorned the wall.
This is located in North Carolina, in the town of Sylva which is 45 minutes west of Asheville.
The Past and Current History of the Teufelsberg Station
https://abandonedberlin.com/teufelsberg-veteran/
An outstanding memory of the functioning of the Army Security Agency working on the Teufelsburg (Devils Mountain) Signal Intelligence Operators,
Lew McDaniel wrote the definitive description/story of the activity of a small group of interceptors capturing a great amount of information and managed to live most of their time as West Berliner's.
"Field Station Berlin" history.
https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Field_Station_Berlin
It was a listening station on Teufelsberg in the Berlin district of the Grunewald in the Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf district, which was operated primarily by the National Security Agency (NSA) and served as part of the global Echelon spy network. It was one of the most important listening stations in the Cold War. Its location on the highest elevation in West Berlin allowed unhindered reception of signals from all directions and on all frequency bands that would otherwise be difficult to receive over long distances.
Low Level Flight Simulator Over 1968 West Berlin
Using a Google Earth flight simulator tool, a flight over locations I served in the U. S. Army between the years 1965-68. Many things have changed since then, but many are still recognizable. The flight starts at Tempelhof, goes to the site of Andrews Barracks in Lichterfeld, over to the Berlin Brigade HQ, to Teufelsberg and then the Tiergarten and downtown Berlin.
